Individual Sessions

What’s stopping you from being the best version of you?

Are you ready to take the plunge and start this journey of self-discovery?

I’m here to help you.

“And the time came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”

– Anaïs Nin

Individual sessions will provide you with a safe space to discover what is really going on in your life. The creative process plays an important role in enabling you to do this work by accessing your unconscious self – the knowing and wise part of you that holds everything. By connecting with your inner self you will come to understand who you are and how you can become an even better version of you so you can live the life you want.

This self-discovery journey involves honouring the darkness, while continuing to strive towards the light. Just as a seed planted in the dark soil must struggle to rise up towards the sun and emerge into the light before it can bloom and be what it was intended to be. The emphasis is always on the process and what that means for you.

What happens in a session?

Each session is unique to you and your needs.
However, a session might look something like this:

  • An opening check-in for you to tell me what you want to focus on in the session
  • An opening reflection/mindful activity
  • You might bring something you created to the session or you create something during the session
  • What you create could be spontaneous where you decide the materials you want to use, or I may ask you to follow a directive that focuses on your identified needs.
  • You reflect on your creation
  • You share your creation and any thoughts that have emerged. I may ask questions to guide your processing. I may ask you whether or not you want to change anything in your creation and give you time to do this.
  • Insight emerges from the art and the process involved in creating it. You consider how this relates to your life and what you are going to take away from your exploration.
  • We end the session by discussing what next. Sometimes I may ask you to do some further work at home. This depends on the situation.

Each session is for 60 minutes.
The cost per session is $130 excluding GST.

Preparing for a one on one session

Make sure you have available for the session:

  • A digital device connected to the internet
  • A private space for the session
  • Art materials

Remember:

  • No previous art experience is required.
  • Our sessions are not art classes. I do not teach art techniques. I will encourage you to try different media to express what you are feeling. Be open to giving things a go. Have an ‘I can’ story.
  • Decide the goals you want to achieve, and how much you are willing to share and discuss.
  • Be prepared to reflect on your creations and the creative process and how this may apply to your life.

This is your journey. I will support you to make meaning from what happens during the session.

Art materials

Art supplies can be expensive. You can work with anything you have on hand. I have suggested to others in the past that they rummage around their recycling bin for art materials if needed. I want to make these sessions accessible to everyone, so if you have some paper and something to make marks with, you’re good to go.

If you want to invest in some art materials, here are some suggestions.

  • Plain copy paper
  • An art pad of thicker quality paper
  • An art journal with blank pages (no lines)
  • Oil Pastels
  • Felt pens
  • Paint – watercolours, acrylics
  • Paint brushes and container for water
  • Black marker pen
  • Pencil
  • Magazines, scissors, glue stick for collage

You can also gather anything else you might be drawn to.
Here are some suggestions:

  • Modelling clay such as playdoh, plasticene, air dry clay, or artist’s clay.
  • Mixed media supplies such as found objects, leaves, flowers (real or artificial), wool, threads, string, alphabet and word stickers, bling, glitter, ribbons, glue.
  • Wire, pipe cleaners.

It is also helpful to have on hand:

  • Something to protect the table where you are working such as newspaper
  • Baby wipes or a damp cloth to clean your hands afterwards.

Are we a good fit?

If you are interested in exploring the possibility of online arts therapy with me, please get in touch to book a free 30 minute discovery call.

It is important that we connect before any decision is made about us working together. Not only do you need to feel comfortable with me, I also have some things to consider. It is important that we are a good fit for each other and that you are able to do this work online. Additionally, I need to check that I have the skills to meet your specific needs. If I don’t, we can discuss other options that would be more suitable for you. This may mean referring you to another therapist or service.
